My name is Harriet White, and I am currently a Media Innovation and Entrepreneurship graduate student at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. With my degree, I'm hoping to pursue a career where I can bring together my entrepreneurial and civic interests with my journalism experience. Prior to graduate school, I was the Director of Media and Retail Marketing at a global asset management firm in Chicago where I managed the firm's digital marketing efforts and oversaw the production of factsheets and marketing materials.
Growing up with a father who lived all over the world, I was always taught to think globally. Coupled with my own curiosity, I quickly became the person who thrived on having serendipitous conversations with each person I met, discovering the implicit beauty that resided in each diverse personality; I just loved people. It was these conversations and my interest in observing people that led me to study at the Missouri School of Journalism.
With my experience abroad in Brussels as an intern at Procter & Gamble's Government Relations department and my internships with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the Council on Foreign Relations, I developed keen interests in international issues and communications. Yet, looking to explore these interests in a business environment and expand my experience, I joined Thomas White International in September 2013. My previous marketing position gave me an opportunity to meld my interests in business and communications while also strengthening core digital publishing skills I developed in journalism school. I'm hoping my graduate school studies will further enhance my business, innovation and content strategy knowledge.
I am a summa cum laude graduate from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism with an emphasis in magazine editing and publishing, as well as a minor in French.
